Last week I asked for your feedback in a little survey about this blog. My main goals for the survey were the find out if there were things that I was posting that no one really cared to hear about or that weren’t really relevant to my little online space. Because photography is my full time job and social media is a huge part of what keeps my business going, my blog and online presence is really important to me. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the comments, interactions, and encouraging words I get from my posts letting me know you are reading and enjoying my work.
I had hoped that the survey would help me streamline my blog a bit more and narrow it down. I asked about posting recipes, thrift-store blogs, house diys, mama and baby stuff because all of those things are much more about me personally rather than my client photo work or my job. This blog has been a balance of those things but I’m finding it increasingly difficult to keep those two things blended into one blog cohesively. I thought by asking you all what I should cut out, it might be easier… but most of you answered that you didn’t want me to cut anything, and wanted more posts from those things I was thinking of nixing! Super encouraging to me (and probably what I wanted to hear in the long run, just means more work and blogging time which is fine by me
).
So I already have hundreds (in my head) of personal posts I want to do; recipes I’ve been dying to share, thrift store adventures to blog, canning tips, links and posts from other online spaces I like… but I also have lots of client work to share and posting a few sessions a week takes up a lot of my blog time and space too.
So my solution is this. I’m creating a second blog. I know, I know. Crazy! But I think in the long run this will work best. My new personal blog will be for my house/cooking/Finley updates/mama posts. I’m hoping that space continues to aid in communicating with my friends (online friends and friends i know in person) and can be a sounding board for more personal things. This blog (www.kaylanbuteyn.com) will be my photography/client blog. Many of you asked for more photo tips, editing posts and how-to’s so I’ll be able to incorporate more of those types of posts on this blog as well as share my client work without feeling like having a post on cloth diapering one day and a post with recent wedding photos the next don’t share a space or belong to one another.

I’m working with an amazing designer friend on my personal blog right now and should have it up and running in the next few weeks. I’m so excited to finally feel like I have two specific outlets of communicating my work, rather than just jumbling all sorts of things into one online space that feels scattered and disorganized. The new blog will have a very boho, earthy, natural feel to emphasize a bit more of my personal style. I can’t wait to share it with you! I hope you’ll continue to stay updated on both blogs, I’ll be linking the two from time to time. Readers, you mean so much to me!
